Starter Prayer: "God of surprising journeys, help me to live my life forward, trusting that you are steering the ship. Help me to understand my life backward by seeing and forgiving the many 'signs of Jonah.'" (From Wondrous Encounters by Richard Rohr)
The signs of Jonah appear when something nudges (or pushes) us from the platform of certainty into the darkness of our vulnerability. Some disciplines call it bottoming out. Others call it burning out. Some call it dying to self. Whatever you call it, it feels like this -- falling from the edge into the unknown where we can no longer do "it" the way we have been doing "it" whatever "it" may be.
Somehow, someway, in the center of that swirling darkness of the unknown, God creates a miracle. Over and over again, nomatter how many times we fall into the unknown, God is there giving us what God knows we need most. We stop looking backwards. We are made upright, looking forward. We can carry on.
