Have you ever come to the end of your worship with a feeling of dissatisfaction or emptiness? Are there times when you comment (regarding your prayer or worship experiences) "I'm not being fed?" Most of us have been there. It is not unusual to go through phases of emptiness...even when we have sustained our practice of attending worship or personal devotional time.
We may begin to look toward the presentation (or the worship leaders) as the reason behind what we see as inadequate or unfulfilling. Our all too human (and predictable) inclination is to look outward for a cause. Our ability to judge or evaluate a situation may step forward and begin to blame what is going on for our spiritual hunger.... Our critical eye may get fixated upon this or that detail... and criticism becomes our center....and it then grows exponentially to the point of becoming our primary response to every worship moment we encounter.
Even well intended criticism can obstruct the nourishment of the soul. It can take on a life of its own...and we can begin to "expect" to see what is "wrong" with worship rather than what is so very, very, amazingly right: The Abundance Of God's Love!
Peace.... Be Still.... Move away from the critical, judgemental dance and remind yourself that God, always present, spreads His hand and lavishes you with everything you need. Open the mouth of your soul (and shut the critical eye of your mind) so that you can taste and see the goodness of the Lord.
