Christ in the Desert

Christ in the Desert (Ivan Kramskoi, 1872)

I pray with the fatiqued, famished figure who is the Lord of my life.

His body seems depleted. He slumps with hands clasped in prayer...His face is without energy...

I know that His heart and His mind are clinging to the Word of God, the Father. Although Jesus has the power to do all that would manifest His OWN strength, he surrenders himself in the wilderness to the Lord of His life...Almighty God.

He was led into the wilderness, and if I am to follow him, so must I acknowledge the wilderness where I am tempted. There are times I deceive myself by thinking that I can pull myself out of some danger...some pain... Not true.

Better for me to stay in this wilderness and let my weakness be exposed. Better to follow you, oh Lord...as I cling to the Word of God, as you did. Amen.
