Touching the wounds

Today we hear the story about the disciple Thomas, who got "it".   ("It" being the understanding that Jesus had really, really established the way to life and wholeness forever)  John 20:19-31  We learn that doubt cannot prevent the way that the love of God in Christ approaches us.  Even when we doubt, Christ says in some way:  Here I am.

This is a story of raw intimacy.  Leaning towards Jesus was not enough for Thomas.  He needed to lean into Jesus and physically connect with the horror of sacrifice.  That connection was the threshold  of faith.  Thomas crossed it, and "knew" Christ.

Perhaps your faith has been formed by hearing about Jesus from others.  Or maybe it is rooted in hope emerging from your own wounded life.

There is no "best way" to get "it".   Even when you doubt, you can listen to others.   You can sink into your own life.  You can touch the pain of another, or the pain residing in your own life.

The only thing necessary is that you consent to being taught about Jesus' peaceful presence when you are exposed to what is really, really before you.
