Starter Prayer: "Patient God, is it really possible that so many of us could be that wrong? Why do we prefer the winners to the losers, when you were clearly one of the 'losers' and always on the side of the 'losers'?" (From Wondrous Encounters by Richard Rohr)
Rabbi Edwin Friedman said that if you are "on the right track, you can expect sabotage." He was talking about leadership. The one who is stepping out into the unknown, the place of adventure, the place where change is initiated, will often be criticized (at best) or totally rejected. I would say that Jesus was a leader! (Leading us all to the losers!)
If we are following Christ, then we are walking the way of being constantly upended and overturned. I think of Mary's song of deliverance, the Magnificat, (Luke 1:46-55). The greatness of The Lord sets the losers on the side of light and life. The winners of the world remain in darkness.
Is it really possible that so many of us could be that wrong? Where are you choosing to be on the winning side? What would happen if you turned around and walked the other way?
