Wednesday, Fifth Week of Lent

Return Often to God's Word

If you continue in my word, you are truly my disciples; and you will know the truth and the truth will make you free.  John 8:31-32

My eating habits were transformed the day I really understood the quip "You are what you eat."

After all, if what I put into my mouth and swallow is the only thing my body has to work with as it renews itself each day, why would I put junk into it?

The same thing is true with what I choose to consume with my mind and soul.   I realize that what I attend to in the first hour of the day can have an impact upon my thoughts, desires and choices all day long.

So here is a typical check list:  phone messages, text messages, e-mail, weather forecast, bank account balances.  Usually (thanks to technology) they all can be accessed in just a few minutes.

Then, God's Word.  On my best days I can protect a l-o-n-g time for simply being with God's Word.

Read it.  Linger with it.  Let the mind and the heart absorb the truth given.  Pray with it.  Say yes to God's presence with you throughout the day.
