Promises of Love In An Everlasting Covenant

I will establish my covenant between me and you, and your offspring after you throughout their generations, for an everlasting covenant, to be God to you and to your offspring after you.  Genesis 7:17.

Covenant -- a promise to be in relationship no matter what -- even when the "other" is faltering in his/her aspect of the relationship.

Most business relationships (and many social relationships) are contracts.  Contracts have a function because they help establish order and accountability.  But if one of the parties fails to hold up their end of the bargain, the contract can be renegotiated, transferred, or simply broken and sent to the delete pile.

Not so with God's covenant with us which models in perfection how our covenants are to be.  God loves us so much that God establishes the covenant which says:  even if YOU are not faithful to me, I WILL be faithful to you.

How does that sit with you, friends?  Can you be honest about the times you have been unable to sustain your side of the relationship with God?  Can you give thanks for (and yes, praise for) the way that God has never faltered in the covenant of love between you and God?

Prayer:  O gracious and loving God help me to keep my promises to you and to others.
