Friday, Third Week of Lent

Being Alone With God

You shall love The Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and will all your mind, and with all your strength.   Mark 12:30

Nouwen reminds us:  "Even during his active ministry, Jesus continued to return to hidden places to be alone with God."

When you have a life filled with work, play, people, places and positions it make take practice to find that space in your life where you can return (regularly) for time alone with God.

There may voices asking (or demanding) you to stay in the group, engaging with both the joys and challenges of the public life.

However, solitude and simplicity of time and space are spiritual imperatives.  If Jesus could not sustain his ministry without that time with God, how can you?

If you are to follow Jesus, you too must choose to find the hidden place where you can attend to God, and to God alone.

Prayer:  O God, be with me in my resolve to be alone with you somehow, every day.
