Life is Full of Sorrows and Joys
But Jesus answered, "You do not know what you are asking. Are you able to drink the cup that I am about to drink?" Matthew 20:22
During Lent it we are invited to look at both the fullness of life and the emptiness. I can't think of anybody who has a perfect life. Nouwen saw life as a cup filled with sorrows and joys.

Each person has the freedom to choose whether to ignore the flow (spilling it out and wasting it) or to drink deeply of its truths of pain and pleasure..
Drinking deeply of life means living each day with awareness. It isn't about clinging to life. It is about taking it in, absorbing the drops of time -- every moment. Ultimately it means living life with the kind of gratitude and appreciation that makes it impossible for you to ignore the preciousness of the lives of everybody you encounter.
Jesus drank the cup of His life, finally surrendering to the cup of death and sorrow. But in that emptying God's plan to fill all lives with the promise of eternal life poured out!
Prayer: Gracious God, help us to drink deeply of our lives - in times of sorrow as well as joy.
