Further thoughts about Wisdom

The more I think about Wisdom, the more I realize that it is not usually "achieved". You can pursue knowledge by scurrying from one resource to another and intentionally absorbing information. You can also pursue "experience" by seeking and then engaging in a new or increasingly challenging activity (whether it is mental or physical).

I can think of two ways we can open ourselves to Wisdom....which I am beginning to believe is bestowed by God according to what we have been prepared to received.

One way is by repeating a process and looking at it from a different angle each time. By asking new questions about the same thing we may begin to observe a different facet -- the specific components of the activity may be the same, but as we become "wiser" about the way they work, we may actually be given insight that was always there, but that was muted or obscured (often by our prejudice of what we think we know.)

Another way is to sit in the presence of information or activities...before deciding what to do, patiently and prayerfully ask some questions:

Based upon what I have learned about God's Kingdom, where is Wisdom breaking in? Where are the qualities of eternity? In simpler terms.... what WILL actually matter 10 years from now?

Wisdom guides us away from the folly of selfish or narrow vision. Wisdom, ultimately, moves us from the surface of the present circumstances toward an appreciation of whatever it is in the moment that connects with everlasting life.

Many folks with third grade educations are exceedingly wise.... and many people with advanced degrees and years of professional experience are simply exceptionally knowledgeable. Knowledge informs.... wisdom forms, reforms and transforms.

A full life includes both...knowledge and wisdom. One is our opportunity...and even our responsibility as humans. The other is our blessing and privilege as children of God.

Today, how will you grow in knowledge and experience? How will you be open to receiving wisdom? What about yesterday.... did your knowledge of this or that increase? Did wisdom enter your day?
