Inclined toward the Sun

So here we are....the day when we mark the the day of longest light. Long before humanity understood the science of it all people knew that the light waxed and waned with a predictable rhythm. Virtually every society had some sort of ritual or festival (pagan or sacred) that was connected to and indeed dependent upon the cycle of light.

With the help of Copernicus people understood that our experience of light and dark is the result of earth's position or inclination towards the center of the universe...the sun. (No, this isn't an elementary science lesson...but you can see where I'm going with this!)

Watching the sunrise this morning, I am drawn into thanksgiving for the light of the world.

I ponder the many ways the harmony and contentment of my life is dependent upon the center of my heart....the Christ. I think about the myriad ways my choices determine my "inclination towards the Son". If I find myself in the darkness of fear, or doubt, or sin or any kind, I can shift my focus (sometimes ever so slightly, sometimes in a total 180 degrees) and return to the light.

I give thanks and praise for God's love for me and for all of creation. I know that I am eternally in Light because of the Lord's Loving inclination towards me....

Thank you gracious God...I love you...Amen!
