Think about benevolence...we have a wide array of options for giving to our money to others, if we are so inclined. If you identify your passion, whatever it be... books, music, athletics, birds, large mammals, photography, opera, live theater, rain forests, owls, wolves.... The list is endless. But once your cause is identified, you will be able to find a way to support it financially.
In the midst of all that doing, though, there is something that can be given that surpasses any kind of financial offering... and that "something" is hope. Even if you lavish somebody with financial support...gifts, scholarships, housing, whatever...the hub of all that you give won't begin to whirl with potential until you speak out boldly about hope.
You see, finances still maintain a distance between the giver and the receiver. Don't get me wrong, I know that there are times when situations are so critical that until the financial needs are met the people involved can't move on. But even financial respite will be finite...limited to the relief of specific concerns... unless seeds of hope are not only sown but also cultivated.
There is a remarkable filmshort out there now about Hope. The Butterfly Circus speaks boldly about the difference between offering somebody shelter where they can be safe and providing sanctuary, where the hope of all that is holy within them can flourish.
If you have twenty minutes in the next week, I encourage you to watch The Butterfly Circus..... and then, my friends, let's talk!
Hopefully, Pamela
