Come!

Have you ever tried to teach a canine to "come"? Sometimes the process goes well, I have heard...especially amongst the breeds known to have a high desire to please. I guess I have never had such a breed...nor have any of my friends.

Years ago our family had a beagle who responded to the command "come!" by going. Then there was the one who thought that come meant "come within 15 feet of me and then run as fast as you can in another direction."

The closest I have to a dog that responds to "come" in a way that gets the job done is a small chihuahua... and when she hears the word "come" she literally freezes in her tracks and then shakes until you come to her... (even when I'm in my pj's and there's three feet of snow outside).

Look at all of the times "come" appears in today's reading:

Revelation 22:12-14, 16-17, 20-21

"See, I am coming soon; my reward is with me, to repay according to everyone's work.

I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end."

Blessed are those who wash their robes, so that they will have the right to the tree of life and may enter the city by the gates.

"It is I, Jesus, who sent my angel to you with this testimony for the churches. I am the root and the descendant of David, the bright morning star."

The Spirit and the bride say, "Come." And let everyone who hears say, "Come." And let everyone who is thirsty come. Let anyone who wishes take the water of life as a gift. The one who testifies to these things says, "Surely I am coming soon." Amen. Come, Lord Jesus!

Wow... no tricks here...no games...no frustration...no mischief.

A clear and cosmic promise that all is coming together as the Lord of Life comes towards us...because he came...and he went...and he continues to come and will always come.

Every time our thoughts or sighs and yes, our words, utter "Come", he is there, coming to us and saying, come to me.... Sometimes we meet in the middle....but if for some reason we stumble or run up against a barrier, all we need to do is believe that as we reach out and say "Come", and He is there enfolding us in His Love.
