This image was created by Octavio Ocampo. As you look at it for one or two or five minutes...do you begin to focus upon a particular person in the picture? And then, what happens if you allow yourself to be drawn into the scene?
I'm not real big on parades or crowds...so I usually don't "see" myself in such scenes. Yet, I can see myself standing on the outskirts...
Jesus seems to be sitting motionless astride the donkey...I would guess there was little that he did to handle the animal...no kicking or pulling upon the reins...He doesn't seem to be experiencing the adrenaline rush of power that might be apparent in the demeanor of other victorious warriors as they process through a crowd. He appears to be deep in thought...and why wouldn't he be?
I am drawn to the sight of this man, Jesus, riding upon a small beast of burden. I look at his posture...I am moved by the humility of the entrance to Jerusalem...so different from so many "processions"....I am reminded, too, that Mary with Jesus in her womb rode a donkey as well.....

Something about the humility of both scenes speaks volumes about the contrast between the power of the Creator of the Universe and God's awesome sacrifice of the incarnation in Jesus...All out of love for us!
Peace be with all of you as you enter this weekend ...
