Continuous

The conversation is continuous. My soul is speaking with God in words that are more intimate and honest than my mind or my tongue would ever form. How wonderful! What a gift....that the Holy Spirit, the gift that Jesus announced as he was leaving his incarnate walk 2000 years ago, sustains conversation with divine Love.

If it was up to me, I'd be at the mercy of all sorts of barriers to prayer. At times my voice is hesitant ... even speechless. Or, sometimes my ego walks through the hours with pride and dignity, implying in its foolishness that during this or that hour prayer is not necessary.... everything is under control, thank you very much!

If it was up to me, my prayer would limited to those times when "I" settle into the dialogue. If it was up to me, the flow of prayer would be halting, sporadic...even staccato.... However....because of the Holy Spirit, I am assured of a continuous flow of connection between my soul and the heart of God....

‘The Spirit comes to help us in our weakness. For when we cannot choose words in order to pray properly, the Spirit himself expresses our plea in a way that could never be put into words, and God who knows everything in our hearts knows perfectly well what he means.' (Romans 8:26)

I am reminded this day that prayer is first and foremost God's initiative taken to connect with me....God prays within me first, massaging words of truth (How am I, really, right now?) from my heart....and then, from time to time, my tongue articulates words of prayer.....
