Ripples

Are you aware of the impact you have upon every person in your midst? I often forget about the message I communicate indirectly. I pay more attention to the ones I CHOOSE to address rather than all of the others who are outside my field of concern.

There is always so much more going on than initially meets the eye or the mind. There are ripple effects to everything. Anything done or left undone (spoken or unspoken) has a dominoe effect that can influence people or events far beyond my scope of vision or awareness.

That reality is another reason why I am so deeply dependent upon the gift of prayer. Morning prayer is the stone I cast into the surface of my day...and my hope is that my thoughts and actions will radiate outward from that center.

I'm talking about interconnectedness. I'm talking about the understory of words and actions that is revealed in our deepest intentions and desires. I'm talking about the invitation (and responsibility) we have as children of God to surrender our preoccupation with the way WE think things should be to God. After all...God knows much more about the good we can accomplish in any given day than we will ever know.

I assume that if you are reading this blog, you are a prayerful person. I give thanks for your prayers today. I trust that through prayer your OWN desires are brought into the light of God's infinite love and wisdom. Somehow in that mysterious light a transformation occurs. Through prayer you express once again your consent and your desire that Christ renew your heart and mind. The abiding message of Christ is amplified to you through prayer, diminishing and often dissolving the thoughts and concerns that are not "of" God.

As your mind is centered in Christ your words, gestures, glances and actions will radiate into your day to communicate His love and power to somebody else--a somebody else upon whom you may or may not be focusing.

May your day be blessed, and may you BE a blessing to all you encounter.
