Divine Reminders

What reminder tactics do you use? Lists? Sticky notes? Alarms? Decades ago I used to tie strings around my fingers to nudge my memory about something I knew I might forget. As soon as I looked at my hand and saw the string my mind would recall the thought or idea attached to the string. Now we have all sorts of wireless devices with automatic reminders. We can function fairly well without relying upon our own capacity to memorize important dates, times or details. Screens display popups or devices emit beeps to keep us on track.

The human mind has always been prone to forget...but now, it seems, with the quantity and magnitude of details we try to process and recall, we are more dependent upon reminder tactics than ever.

What about our ability to remember the way of faith? Jesus taught the children of God everything they would ever need to know to function. In His words are all of the reminders about every essential thing I am to recall as I live and walk in this world.

Christ knew that we could be distracted by all sorts of thoughts, fears and temptations. He knew, too, that the way of the world would challenge us and cloud our clear and consistent memory of all he said and did....and why.

"the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you everything, and remind you of all that I have said to you." John 14:26

Thank you, Father, for your infinite understanding and compassion for me, the forgetful one...thank you for the reminders you place before me every moment through your Holy Spirit.... Amen.
