But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God's own people, in order that you may proclaim the mighty acts of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. Once you were not a people, but now you are God's people; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy. 1Peter 2:9-10
I began the path of faithful discipleship as a curious child (about 35 years of age) wondering about the amazing promises of Christ. Hope and assurance were conveyed to me by the church and the faithful voices of mentors -- saints singing and praying trust, hope and joy.
As I walk the path of faithful discipleship now I am a bit more "seasoned" in my faith. There has been a series of events -- literally a flow of experiences -- where I have been aware of God's deliverance from one stumbling block or yawning chasm of worldly pain, torment or temptation.
Who, me, a part of a chosen race? A member of the royal priesthood? Me? But at times I am the curious, inquisitive child -- who, what, where, how -- questions asking for direction and wisdom that escapes my childlike humanness.
Then I recall the why of all of this..... it is because you, gracious loving God, have called me (yes me!) from the darkness. You have set me on the path of serving in your name...when I speak in word and deed of your mighty acts I become "priestly". It isn't me, Pamela, who has the momentum or power to accomplish anything at all.... it is you, beloved Christ, your mercy, your love, your light, your truth, directing every moment.
Awesome, amazing...the worth of this one who is both child and priest...one of the chosen...one of God's people...all assured through your grace and your intimate knowledge of who, where and how I am.
Aaaaaahhhhhh.....thank you......
