Bursting

Today's reading reminds us that we may burst at the seams. The sheer power of all that flows in our heart, soul and mind when we are walking faithfully requires our consent to the transformation of our life and all that characterizes it. Our previous attitudes and preferences comprise, essentially, the old skin...our way of thinking and acting in every time and place. Jesus counsels us:

"No one sews a piece of unshrunk cloth on an old cloak; otherwise, the patch pulls away from it, the new from the old, and a worse tear is made. And no one puts new wine into old wineskins; otherwise, the wine will burst the skins, and the wine is lost, and so are the skins; but one puts new wine into fresh wineskins."
Mark 2:21-22

What happens when you envision yourself becoming increasingly pliable? What regions of your heart and your lifestyle might be different if the threads that are your thoughts, prejudices, habits, weaknesses were re-worked by Jesus? Where might you find new possibilities and potentials? Where would the love of Christ expanding your heart and mind burst from the confines of your old life?
