Good Friday

Readings:  "Yet it was our infirmities that he bore, our sufferings that he endured.  He was pierced for our offenses, and crushed for our sins, upon him was the chastisement that makes us whole."  (From Rohr:  Now do not think of this as an act of suffering for nearly as much as an act of suffering with.  It makes all the difference.)     Isaiah 53:4-5

"Now it is finished."  (From Rohr:  The lie is over) And he bowed his head and gave up His Spirit.'" (From Rohr:  The truth was handed on to history.)  John 19-30

Starter Prayer:  "Crucified Jesus, you are not a stranger to my soul, you are not foreign to our history. You have revealed, resolved, and forgiven it all on the cross.  I join the whole world today in thanking you.  This is indeed a Good Friday."

Today is a day of varied emotional tempos. The rhythm of heartbeat will change as we approach the cross as it approaches us. As the human heart of Jesus beat its last, God's heart wept and intersected time and space.  Forever since that day, human suffering will never, ever have the final say.  Because of that day each one of us is drawn permanently into the Love of God and free to love all others with abandonment.

I pray that your day provides multiple opportunities for you to take your pulse...

You, precious Child of God, have the blessing of life before you this day. Accept it with praise and joyful thanksgiving. Because of that Friday when His heartbeat stopped, there is a pulsing rhythm which is love, and life and light that guides your heart, mind and soul through each day...until your heart beats its last and you, too can say:

Father, into your hands I commend my Spirit.

Isn't that good?
