Sunday, Fourth Week of Lent

We Are Called To Be Faithful in Small Tasks

For we are what he has made us, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand to be our way of life. -- Ephesians 2:10

When you are scanning the horizon looking for the sight of something huge or immense you may miss the intricate beauty of something right before you.

I wrote about the vast awe of the simplest, smallest being in sight --here

I learned that day (again) that there is no such thing as a self-determined call.  When we decide for ourselves what opportunity or which activity is "worth" our time, we immediately turn our attention from the small task that might have a huge impact "down the road".

The fruit of small acts of service can have a domino effect that can grow exponentially in a surprisingly short period of time.  On the other hand, when we enter a stream of activity at the high point or pinnacle, it may actually be at the end of its potential.  Sure, the endeavor may be exquisitely crafted, and it may be lauded as an award winning act of service -- but to deem it as greater or more important than a small gesture or assume that it is the most important level of ministry is, frankly, not your call!

Prayer:  O Lord, forgive me when I discount the importance of small tasks.
