Self-Rejection Saps the Spiritual Life
I hope you have read Nouwen's offering in the booklet. If not, read this:
from Psalm 103:8, 10-11
The Lord is merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love...He does not deal with us according to our sins, nor repay us according to our iniquities. For as the heavens are high above the earth, so great is His steadfast love toward those who fear him.
One of the essential truths about you is that you are precious in God's sight. Even in the secret places where you declare that "this" about you is unacceptable, God's love is saying "but I, The Lord your God, can work with "this"!.
You have a choice today. You can dwell in the darkness of self-critique and rejection. You can listen to the confusion and chaos of all the ways that you are weak and imperfect.
Or
You can pay attention to God's love shining in Christ saying: I have claimed you, you are mine, you are precious to me. I know more about you than you do!
For thought: What helps you see that you are precious in God's eyes? Ask God to help you think about your beautiful potential so that you may see yourself as God sees you.
