Tuesday, Third Week of Advent
“Blessed are you, Creator of the
universe—from old you have led your people by night and day. May the light of your Christ make our
darkness bright, for your Word and your presence are the light of our pathways,
and you are the light and life of all creation.”
(From Holden Evening Prayer—Evening Hymn
copyright 1990 by GIA Publications)
Two sentences. So simple.
Yet they tell the story from Genesis to Revelation. You created us, oh God. You have led us
throughout the generations. Then your
love for us was made known by your desire to come to us – to meet us where we
are. And now you are the light and life
of ALL creation.
As it was in the beginning, is now, and
ever shall be. World without end! Amen.
Come, Lord Jesus!
Reflection:
What happens when you remind yourself this: In the flow of history, human, natural or personal, this moment has never occurred before and will never occur again. Yet in this moment the same God that was in the beginning and will be in the end is with you.
We may have an idea of where we are on our timeline -- December 18, a Tuesday, in the year 2012. What happens when you expand your thoughts to envision yourself on the line of time from beginning to end. It can make you feel tiny. Yet, how vastly important, immense and precious you must be, since the God of all is with you, loving you and guiding every step you take!
