Let your eyes adjust to the darkness

Thursday, Second Week of Advent

It takes courage to open your eyes when you are in the dark.  What would you rather do (if taking control and turning on a light is not at option?)  Would you keep your eyes closed?  Open one eye or both?

Have you noticed that you really can walk through the darkness if the space is familiar?  If the room is dark but you have lived in it for years you can probably navigate your way by instinct.

But when you are in a dark, strange place the tendency is to hesitate or stop completely.

Given that, what does it mean that Christ calls us from previous patterns of life into new ways of thinking, doing, and being?

Unknown regions can feel very dark, because there are no familiar paths or guideposts.  Are you willing to leave the old ways? Will you walk through the dark towards new ways with eyes wide open?

Your eyes may begin to adjust and the darkness may feel less imposing.  You may begin to find your way with greater confidence!
