Wind is whipping about today. The first truly balmy day in a long time. Forecasts tell us that thunderclaps may punctuate the warm air's return. It will be intense, and I may think twice before taking my walk in the woods.
In some ways the atmosphere is a manifestation of the emotional climate today.
Winds have blown.
In 1968 on this day, (also the day of Maya Angelou's birth) Martin Luther King, Jr. gave a speech in Tennessee, speaking the mountain top of hope and the promised land of human rights.
Thunder clapped. He was assassinated.
Today I will attend Dave's funeral. (see post from March 29). Together his friends, colleagues and families will sit in a windstorm of emotion. And yet thunder will clap when we sing or shout "Alleluia (even in Lent) -- He lives!"
Unlike a day when the swirl of wind or turmoil of heart is bone chilling, today is a day when our hearts and minds will be warmed by proclamation of Resurrection. We will remember that with all the Saints, Martin and Dave walk eternally, now, in eternal rest and joy.
I realize that every day there are winds blowing and cracks of thunder somewhere. It's just that today I am more aware of it.

Yesterday I was making a presentation at the CSJ Motherhouse, and as where you are, it was very windy. A friend of many, Liz Peplow, CSJ died suddenly and very unexpectedly this past week. Someone commented that the strong winds reminded them of Liz - she was filled with the Spirit and very passionate, and at times she felt so strongly that she could blow you over. I did not attend the funeral, but was told that it was a most joyous celebration.
Peace and consolation be with you.
Wow... Dave and Liz sound like they were of like spirit. And he would be passionately saying to us right now.... Keep up the good work, friends! His funeral was also joy-filled and hope-filled. Wonderful celebration of life, sincere examination of death's pain, and exuberant proclamation of resurrection!
Peace and consolation be with you, as well!
