Holy Ground

Have you ever been on Holy Ground?  How did you know that you were there?  Most of us haven't seen a burning bush that wasn't consumed.

I don't know many people who have been stopped in their tracks by an audible voice from the sky (although I do know many who have "heard the Lord").

Today's lesson from Exodus seems appropriate for this first week of 2011.   In the midst of all of our resolutions and plans we may or may not be in the places and spaces where God wishes us to be.  Yet I know that with or without burning bushes, Holy Ground is still around these days.  I also know that many times we are simply too busy with our own itinerary to recognize it.

I was given a quotation about Holy Ground many years ago.  It still echoes, even though I don't know the source or the exact words.  It goes something like this:

When you know you can't go backwards, and that you can't stay where you are, and you have no choice but to move on, yet you are filled with wonder and a small dose of fear, YOU ARE ON HOLY GROUND!
Those words meet me when I am in a state of confusion.  I know that in the landscape of Holy Ground there is God, the great I AM.  If I am to stand still at all, it should only be to quiet my own mental or emotional rumblings.  I know that God is seeking me in some way, if I will but trust, and then allow God to lead me to the next place...and the next...

Ah yes, Holy Ground! I'm thinking it might be a place that we've been preparing for, yet don't know how we will handle it until we reach it again. All of our spiritual "work" and "progress" lead us up that moment. . . when we find ourselves there it is put to the test. . . we can't go back like you said, we can't run away from it, we have to figure out how to move forward. Thanks for the insight and I love the artwork you keep choosing for your site!!
