From one ancestor he made all nations to inhabit the whole earth, and he allotted the times of their existence and the boundaries of the places where they would live, so that they would search for God and perhaps grope for him and find him - though indeed he is not far from each one of us. For 'In him we live and move and have our being'; as even some of your own poets have said, 'For we too are his offspring.'
Acts 17:24-28
Every morning I wander to my prayer space. Before dawn breaks I settle into the place where the deepest desire of my heart and mind is met. I am made for this...for this yearning for God. It usually doesn't feel like groping, thankfully. It is like basking in warm water...
At least for a while I am keenly aware that I live in God and that I move with God...not because of anything remarkable that I do, but rather, because God has taken the initiative and is more near to me than my own breath and pulse.
This feeling of being "in Christ" eludes rational explanation. The closest I can come to explaining it is to point you to the fish in my fishtank. Stay with me here....
These creatures dwell in a space where all that they receive is supplied by the water. They receive their oxygen, their food, their ability to be supported and mobile in the water which is not only around them but is also flowing through their gills. In their underwater world they see, taste, breathe, smell, and hear. Take a fish out of water...and death is imminent.
That is how it is with God and you. You have been created to be totally dependent upon God for all that you need. And God's hand is open, providing the food, the environment, the support and momentum as well as the lifegiving breath that enables you to "be".
As you move through this day, how are you aware that you are "in Christ"?
