Multi-tasking is marked by many as a desirable skill. For some it may be as simple as having several loads of laundry going while cooking dinner and entertaining the babes... or it may be working on a powerpoint while also listening in on an hour long conference call... or it might be watching several different programs all at once on one or more televisions or monitors.

I know that multi-tasking has its place... So much can be accomplished...even if the tasks are rooted in a variety of objectives. However, we pay a price for it...and it could be a significant toll.

Have you ever thought about the impact it has upon your ability to attend to one thing for a prolonged span of time? I have been told by folks much younger than me that messages must be more like a tweet than a symphony. (that is, if you want the majority of folks to actually get the message). How does this affect the way we attend to the Lord? How does this influence our ability to ponder or savor or sustain our attention when we are in God's stillness?

Today's lesson is lengthy...but its message in a "tweet" is "No Multi-tasking of the heart!" There is no room for divided attention when it comes to matters of deep faith.

Loving God with your whole heart establishes the focus of your life. Everything radiates from that love. We can get alot done...and it may be at times that we will actually be multi-tasking as we serve others (think, for example, the way we pray for others while we work at Habitat for Humanity, or feed the hungry)... but if all the "tasking" were to stop there would be just one thing to which you would still attend.... worshiping God.
