This is the day that the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.
Save us, we beseech you, O LORD! O LORD, we beseech you, give us success!
Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the LORD. We bless you from the house of the LORD.
The LORD is God, and he has given us light. Bind the festal procession with branches, up to the horns of the altar. You are my God, and I will give thanks to you; you are my God, I will extol you.
O give thanks to the LORD, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever.
Psalm 118: 25-29
Some of us may awaken today and wonder: Hmmmmm...I'm not so sure I can rejoice in this day because I am facing _________________ (you fill in the blank). And yet, every day is a day the Lord has made.... and every day there is the invitation to "rejoice and be glad in it!"
But here's the truth....
Every day we are walking along a path that is both fraught with danger and lavished with the God's grace. Every day there are moments of peace, beauty and safety that are woven through the contrasting moments of human pain and suffering of all sorts.
We can choose where to fix our gaze as we walk through each moment.
We can attempt to manage the moments ourselves, trying to dodge the thoughts or events that threaten peace of heart and mind. (This is akin to trying to cross a high speed highway on foot!)
Or we can focus upon the Lord who is always walking with us, beside us, before us. With our eyes set upon Him we participate in the plea of all the faithful: Hosanna! (which means "Save us!") With that plea we are asking for help from the one who wants nothing other than to love us and help us as we journey through the world.

This is the day that the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.
