Ephesians 1:15-23
I have heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love toward all the saints, and for this reason I do not cease to give thanks for you as I remember you in my prayers.
I pray that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you a spirit of wisdom and revelation as you come to know him, so that, with the eyes of your heart enlightened, you may know what is the hope to which he has called you, what are the riches of his glorious inheritance among the saints, and what is the immeasurable greatness of his power for us who believe, according to the working of his great power.
God put this power to work in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly places, far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and above every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the age to come.
And he has put all things under his feet and has made him the head over all things for the church, which is his body, the fullness of him who fills all in all.
Romanticists understand the mystique of sending or receiving a message in a bottle. The idea of somebody standing on a distant shore or on the deck of a boat and casting the message of one's heart to sea in a bottle makes me wonder...why was the message sent into the unknown? Somehow the message was important enough that its author didn't want it to remain unspoken.
What about the recipient? Walking along the beach, stooping down to pick up a bottle half buried in the sand....and lo! Within is a message that sets one's feet (and, at least in the movies, one's heart, soul and mind) on a path of discovery. Who sent the message? What does the message mean? How can I find and connect with its author?
God's message of love and eternal purpose was uttered before time began. Then, because of His love, it was sent to us, embodied in Christ. We walk along the beaches of our days and we are met, often by surprise, by the Message. It often meets us first in the heart....literally opening the eyes of our heart in a way that allow the message to be understood. Hope for something beyond our understanding is unleashed.....
And then, often on some faroff day, our minds are clarified. But even in the midst of mental fog, the core of God's message compels us and guides our steps....that's right....like the "north star".
Get the message?
