Monday, First Week of Lent

Choose Love by Taking Small Steps Daily

Mother Teresa said that small deeds done with great love can move mountains.  I believe that.

I also believe that people will remember how they felt in my presence long after they have forgotten my name or my face.  And the hope would be that in some way they would remember being loved.

Love is both noun and verb.  It is a both subject and action.  And small steps toward expressing love can dissolve years of resistance.  Generally adversarial relationships can be transformed by small gestures of hospitality.

I can think of several situations in my life that would benefit from some regular doses of love.  I may not be able to speak freely or convincingly of my love.   Perhaps the first small step would be to ask that God would help me soften my countenance, unclench my fists, and listen to the other as one whose voice and words I value and respect.

Prayer:  O Lord, help me to take the small steps of love I need to take today.
