Friday after Ash Wednesday

The God of Love and Mercy Awaits Us

The older I get the more I experience the variability of physical existence.  Some days I am filled with vigor.  There is a spring in my step and a frisky twinkle in my eye.

And other days I move with effort.  I look in the mirror and say "Oh my, when did that happen?"

As long as I am physically alive, something in me will continue to change, heal, and function in a life supporting way.  That is the the way the body is created.

And every day something may dissolve.  It may be at the cellular level.   Or it could be the sudden cessation of some physical, sensory or mental capability.  That is also the way the body is created.

The wonder of God's desire is that the less I cling to physical life the more open I become to the glimpses, tastes and touches of extraordinary eternal life in the midst of ordinary life.

Two things are certain.  I will most certainly die.  And I will most certainly live.

Prayer:  O God, help me this day to recall in profound gratitude the eternal life you have prepared for me.
