I have been praying with Psalm 19 all week, thinking about the law and the way it guides me. There are so many laws that affect me daily --
The law of the land -- every time I abide with simple traffic laws I help to maintain the safe travels of folks on the roads.
The law of the church -- When I teach in accordance with the precepts of the church I participate in an order and rightness that helps sustain our shared understanding of what it means to be the people of God.
Then there is the law of the Lord.
Somehow there is a different connotation with the Lord's Law. It trumps all the others. It is about living in sync with a Love for everyone and everything. It allows me to participate with a freedom rooted in an expansive desire for joy, mercy, gentleness and selfless generosity shown to everyone and everything.
For some reason the old song "Stop in the Name of Love" sung by The Supremes came to mind. Do you remember the lyrics?
