Presentation

Romans 12:1-2

I appeal to you therefore, brothers and sisters, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your minds, so that you may discern what is the will of God -- what is good and acceptable and perfect.

I am reminded of the choice I make each morning to present myself to God.

Here's the image that comes to me today:

In the first moments of awareness I am like one who is lingering in the wings...backstage.

Prayer begins and my body settles into stillness. No activity, please, body, because your mind needs to be renewed. Present yourself, now, mind....step into the center stage of this prayer space.

Curtain up: for whatever span of time is given, mind and heart are illuminated by God's love and spirit beaming lavishly but oh so specifically (as a spotlight) upon ME...highlighting and clarifying through grace all that is good and acceptable and perfect.

It's not about me...not at all... it's all about God's love which takes the initiative to renew and transform my mind (which is admittedly a big part of "me") so that I might do something in service to the "other".

I present my self so that I may receive perspective and at least some eyedropperful of God's wisdom that will guide "me" this day.

Prayer time ends...I move from the stage of my body's stillness...I have much to do, I know...

May whatever transformation that has begun spill forth to the Glory of God. Amen.
