Where is Jesus?

On this Thursday, days before the Sunday which is called the Sunday of the Passion of our Lord (or Palm Sunday) I look at my position on this road called Lent.

My pace has been regular and measured, with regular pauses for reflection about all that Jesus has been modeling. At times I have savored the harmony of oneness with Jesus, when the words he has spoken and the action he has taken have mirrored the deepest desires and hopes of my heart, as well as the way I am behaving.

At other times I have felt the approach of resistance, because Jesus is rebellious, even subversive. As Jesus walks with me he leads me on a path that contradicts the assumptions and values of the world...and even in the recent days I have felt the pressure of the world's resistance. I have stood toe to toe with the world's illusive alternatives -- the false promises and aspirations--myopic materialism, and narrow interests of self-sufficiency. I have been challenged by and with my own complicity...my sin.

Jesus has said "follow me"..."I am with you...are YOU with me?"

I pause for just a moment on this path to get my bearings -- where am I? Where is Jesus?

At my side? A few paces before me to my right or my left? Or is he hundreds of yards ahead of me? Do I see him looking over his shoulder saying "Pamela, come on.... the time is short!"

Lord help me take whatever steps....even leaps....to stay close by your side!
