This Sunday's readings reminded us of how Jesus pointed the children of God to a deeper awareness and appreciation for God's time. He reminds us that participation in the Kingdom of God places us on a path where we are walking and serving in things eternal. Human eyes can only see temporal matters -- cause and effect -- here and now. Certainly there are practical benefits to our human perception -- driving, walking, maintaining daily functions and necessary "order" would not be possible without it. Still, When we view our purpose and our effectiveness in terms of chronology, the vision is narrow....shallow....linear.
Jesus reminds us that beyond what we can see happening in every given moment, there is a level ... God's time... where thoughts, deeds, words, gestures, have a rippling or resonating impact in eternity. He inspires us through the Holy Spirit to follow him on paths we cannot see through time that is beyond our vision. On that path we are given precisely what God knows we need most to be able to participate in His purposes.
