The topic of today's sermon was healing, wellness, and wholeness. We discussed the various forms of dis-ease (the absence of peace and wholeness of mind, body, emotions and spirit). The brokenness and pain we experience affects all aspects of human existence. Still, we tend to speak most often about physical healing, perhaps because it is so clear to us when we are progressing towards feeling better, regaining strength and vitality.
When somebody asks us how we are, they tend to be more comfortable when we speak of physical challenges, even commiserating or offering a referral to a doctor who might be of assistance. Often when we are encountering emotional, psychological or spiritual dis-ease, casual acquaintances will have no clue that we are not completely well. Sometimes those levels of brokenness stay invisible for years. However, their invisibility does not diminish their impact upon our wholeness.
There is something sacred and elusive about the pain that is profound but not physically apparent. It is a wonder and a blessing that God's healing touch reaches beneath the surface, and over time, massages the heart, mind and soul back to life. Often, even if physical cure is not forthcoming, we can see the heart, mind and soul in a condition of radical wellness through the miracle of peace and joy available to us through our faith in Christ.
How can we be supportive to each other and still be sensitive to the pain that may ride just below the surface of lives that look absolutely fine?
Pray regularly for human wholeness. Pray for any and all people suffering emotional, mental or spiritual unrest. Pray also for the relationships impacted by that dis-ease.
Your pray may well be supporting and interceding for the person who said to you "Everything is just fine....." and as far as you could see. it seemed that was the case.
God, the divine physician, heals all of us in ways that reach much deeper than the action of ANY medical professional. Through God's healing, all that is lasting and eternal moves ever closer to wholeness and wellness.
May God grant you healing in the depths of your being.... always drawing your closer to the heart of love in your life and relationships.
