Away until Saturday

I will be away from my computer almost every week from Thursday until Saturday morning, May through October. During these wonderful spring, summer and fall months I pack up my duffle bag and head to my "retreat" space. This space is a 23' Ericson sailboat -- large enough to sleep on a la camping style.

Imagine what it is like to look upward every time I awaken even slightly during the night to see velvet black skies sprinkled with stars, and occasionally an amazing moon. That's right, I sleep outside in the open air -- as long as the temperature at night is somewhere between 30 and 69 degrees.

The rising sun is easily in view as well -- just nestle up with my back against the cockpit -- my dock faces east, and thus I can enter naturally into my favorite time of day.

I have been greeted many, many mornings by the gradual appearance of a brilliant sun, a radiant sky, and the gentle touch of a breeze (or wind). I sip some strong coffee, make a quick peanut butter sandwich and move away from the dock before 7AM for that early morning sail. Somehow being out on Sandusky Bay at that time of day transports me into a "zone" that is nourishing on every level.

So, yes, for those who don't already know this... my time on board my boat is the ultimate contemplative space for this kid. I encourage you to keep checking while I'm away... post your comments and reflections... and benefit from the wisdom of this faith community... (for example, Frank's comments on Sabbath Time are enlightening! -- more on that later!)

Blessings to you all ...

Pamela

What clear, beautiful imagery you provide in this posting. It seems that when one engages the body in such a manner, it 'frees' the spirit to reach out to God, much as a child opens and lifts arms upward. The daily routines and distractions fall away and only the pure heavenly connection remains.

Sail on, sister!
